- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating together
- Beat in 1 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Beat together the flour mixture with the butter, sugar and egg mixture, alternating with the 2/3 cup of milk
- Place the pecans in a bag and roll over them with a rolling pin to crush the pecans slightly
- Add the crushed pecans and butter to a pan and place over heat stirring occasionally
- Fold in half of the toasted pecans
- Divide the batter between two pans and bake in a preheated oven at a temperature of 350F for 25 to 30 minutes or until dry when pricked with a toothpick
- Frosting: Mix together sugar and butter, then stir in vanilla and milk
- Once the cake has cooled spread the frosting between the layers and over the top of the cake and decorate with the remaining pecans
